Everything in creation has the mind of its shape and form. The shape and form itself is its mind.
A person’s mind is similar to the minds of his parents. His very form is given to him by his parents, and he resembles his parents in appearance and therefore, his mind also resembles theirs. He is born with the mind of his form, and he acquires further minds of attachment and self-centeredness through the life he lives. The human mind is the sum of these things.
Man’s mind consists of the mind that he was born with, given to him by his parents, the minds he learned from his parents, as well as the minds he learned from his childhood, schools, other educational institutions, society and marriage. The minds he acquires through his experiences collectively forms a “self ”, a strong mind of attachment. Man believes that this is him. The shadows of past illusionary memories become him, and he lives out his life holding onto them.
It is because man has this mind that people’s opinions, values, standards and judgments differ. Within the self-centered framework of “self ” that is the human mind, man has put in his ideas of right and wrong. He lives according to this mind. There is a Korean saying that one lives according to the minds that he has “eaten”. This means that the way that one lives is no more and no less than the minds that he has within him.
For example, a person who studies medicine at school puts medicine into his mind. Therefore, he will earn his living from doing something in the medical field. A person who studies law will earn his living from the law and a person who studies computing will earn his living from the technology industry. How one behaves and how one lives is determined by what he holds in his mind, so one’s life goes according to what minds he put inside himself. He lives in exactly that way and to that extent only.
Therefore, it is when one discards his false delusional shadows of past memories – his own self – and he acquires the mind of Truth that he is able to truly live.
The human mind can be organized in the following way: It consists of two parts – one’s remembered thoughts of the life that he has lived, and the mind of these thoughts which is the body itself. This mind is one that should be discarded for man is an entity that speaks and behaves according to what this illusionary mind orders him to do. Man believes that he is this mind.
However, he is merely living having become this framework of “self ” formed from false delusions of past memories. Man suffers and is burdened because he can only speak, behave and live according to what he has in his mind. Becoming the Energy and Light of the Universe itself is to escape from this, and when he becomes Truth itself he becomes complete. Man’s body and mind are separate from each other, while a true person’s body and mind are united – they are one. Such a person is complete Truth itself.
Such an existence is the living Energy and Light itself.
